Educational Stay in southern England – a true taste of Britain
Our school offers an Educational Stay in England, which helps pupils of the 9th grade to learn about English culture first hand and to improve their language skills.
For one week, you stay at a host family in Herne Bay or Whitstable located in the south of England, which allows you and your classmates to quickly reach interesting sights and cities.
Travel report from 2017:
Our class, the 9b, had plenty of fun during our stay in England.
A quite "exciting“ part was the journey to England itself. We were on the bus for around 13 hours, starting on a Sunday at 8 am. It wasn’t exactly boring though, as we had plenty of time to chat and listen to music. The ferry crossing from Calais to Dover was also nice. Once we arrived, we were welcomed by our host families and we stayed with them in groups of 2-4 pupils. The host families were very nice, and their cooking skills were excellent, too. We definitely didn’t go to bed hungry!
On Monday, we visited Dover Castle and went on a (slightly scary and also exhausting) cliff walk with an amazing view of the sea.
Another nice place we went to was Canterbury Cathedral, which was very fancy and felt like a very majestic, royal location. We explored the rest of Canterbury in small groups with the help of a smartphone app called “Actionbound”, which was like a modern scavenger hunt where we had to find different places, answer questions about different sights and take pictures.
Sadly, we weren’t able to visit many places in London this year, but Brighton was equally fun to explore. An even better view than from the cliff walk though, was the view from the BA i360 Viewing platform, which went up really high so we got to see pretty much all of Brighton.
We also went on a small boat trip along the River Thames on our day in London, where we saw Big Ben and Tower Bridge up close. We also saw the Tower of London, St Paul´s Cathedral, Covent Garden and more sights during a walk through the city.
On Friday, we went back home to Germany. Our parents were very happy to see us, and we had a lot of stories to share with them.
We feel like the trip has taught us quite a lot, and improved our English skills. We can only recommend this Educational Stay, as it is helpful, fun, and especially useful to learn about English culture!
Statements about the trip:

"I really enjoyed the Educational Stay, because we got to see a lot of sights and could go shopping in London. So, yeah, it was fun!“ – Julian, pupil 9b
